You really haven't watched tv in two years - it's more like 60 percent commercials now. Do I seem stuck on that theme?

Annoying trend in TV commercials...
by Gregor inhave you noticed how it seems that the tactic of making commercials deliberately annoying is becoming popular?
i'm sure you can think of a commercial or two that quickly becomes like fingernails on a chalkboard.
that is why they are produced and repeated over and over, they accomplish the purpose of getting your attention and causing you to remember them.

Observador, it's not just you. But, it may be just you and me. I agree about tv being almost unwatchable these days. I recently caught an episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents and there was only ONE commercial break during the show. That works. But not many people seem to think the number of commercials is the problem rather only the content. Commercials have a long history of being stupid and that won't change but you'll have to get used to being inundated with even more stupidity.

My current hatred is for the annoying AMOUNT of commercials these days! There really is not much "show" of any kind because of all these mostly stupid ads. I've cut back on my TV and radio time for this reason alone and since the trend to flood every show with ads will only increase, my watching / listening time will only decrease. It's radio as well. String together your favorite 20 curses and that pretty well sums up my feelings for commercials.
Oh, and they are on virtually every web site as well. Even youtube videos have pop up adverts and that will only increase. It really is the end of the world. -

I agree with Beta Male. The reporter is telling the cop to "hold on" as the clip starts. How many times was he told to move on first. The video is inconclusive as is. "Don't taze me bro'."

Misquotes from the "Reasoning Book" re: Cross (scans included)
by AlphaOmega inthe "reasoning book" claims that the 1874 edition of the imperial bible dictionary verifies the idea that jesus was crucified on a stake.
however, when you check the reference with the imperial bible dictionary, you see that it acutally is not as clear cut as that.. as usual, the infamous "..." of the watchtower has been used to edit out any opposing ideas in the source that they cite.. i know that this may have been mentioned before, but the scans of the imperial bible dictionary that are floating around the internet are from later editions, hence the page numbers are not those cited in the reasoning book.. .

Very nice work! It's this sort of thing that is apparently very common with the WT. I'd like to get a list together to show that it isn't some little oversight but rather their usual way of working. That video with the woman talking about child abuse that the WT edited in a similar way as this topic. So many others. Anyways, thanks for the info!!

4 If you forward information that turns out to be inaccurate, you bear a measure of responsibility for the sorrow or confusion this can cause. When David received an exaggerated report that all his sons had been killed, he "ripped his clothes apart" in anguish. However, in truth, only one of his sons had died. That was distressing enough, but this exaggeration caused David added distress. (2 Sam. 13:30-33) Surely we would not want to do anything that would mislead or discourage any of our brothers.
Anyone care to start a list of inaccurate information spread by the WT itself? Would be quite the long list. Think they'll ever own up to any of it? -

Ovation Guitar anyone?
by Simon ini used to play the guitar quite a bit but haven't practiced seriously for quite a few years (and left my guitar in the uk when we moved over here).. yesterday i decided i should get myself a guitar again so i popped into a music store and had a strum on a few.. the ovation guitars seemed really nice and not too expensive.
does anyone have one or have any experience of them?
i would love the electic one they do that can also sound acoustic but can't really justify spending so much so would probably get a regular wood / round-backed one.. thanks.

by the thread title I thought you might be selling one...cheap!
I don't play so much but the Ovations I've fiddled with were pretty nice and easy to play. So I'd say they should be high on your list. -

Isn't it funny how as soon as the announcement came of the end of JWD - even though several months away - people just jumped ship and **poof** they were gone. For them that linger on it seems a bit to me like the end of school and everyone is promising to keep in touch etc. It just has that feel. As for me, I'll not be graduating because of my lack of participation. Cyberlife really does mimic reality. har-dee-har-har.

Theodore Jaracz aware of molestation issue in 2001 before Dateline
by Dogpatch inhere is a conversation with theodore jaracz, key member of the watchtower's governing body of jehovah's witnesses, initiated by alan feuerbacher in 2001.. jaracz knew about the dateline expose' of their child abuse problem at least 8 months before dateline aired.. this confirms that the governing body knew about the dateline program expose' of watchtower child abuse problem.
of course, to be fair to jaracz, he was entirely unaware of the problems to the watchtower that would follow, including the resulting court cases, which watchtower settled out-of-court.
six years later, the time of the court settlements, jaracz was proved to be wrong on his observations as discussed in the conversation.. watchtower had knowingly appointed molestors to positions of authority, which was established in the lawsuits, so jaracz's arguments do not hold water here.

That's what struck me as I listened to the call... he believes it! And the lines he used that flowed so easily.. the very same ones used by virtually every witness in this country to be sure if not the world. And I wonder too HOW can they do it? To be able to sit there and talk about the things "other" religions do knowing full well what their religion is guilty of.... robot? plain run of the mill psychopath? what is it?
At any rate, thank you Randy for the link if only to hear Alan's voice. He sounded a bit uneasy at first or is that just his manner all the time? :)
